Christine Husband, R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that we tell you that Christine Husband died unexpectedly in her sleep recently. Christine has been a regular attender at NORVIS playing viols and also violin in the orchestra. Her funeral took place on Thursday 16th March in Cheshire. We will miss her smile and enthusiasm and our thoughts and sympathy go out to her husband, David.

On behalf of NORVIS, Glad Capewell attended the funeral and writes as follows:
“I attended Christine’s funeral service this morning. It was a lovely service full of music. Christine’s daughter, Katie, played flute and Christine’s choir (or one of them!), the Chester Bach Singers, sang some lovely sacred music from Faure and Bach. Christine’s husband, David, bravely gave a eulogy, during which described her love of making music, and in particular he referred to her love of early music and how that had been enriched by her viol lessons and many opportunities for playing in consorts and also playing her violin in orchestras.
A fitting send off for a kind, caring fellow musician and good friend of NORVIS.

Jacqui Robertson-Wade writes:
“Christine was a student of mine at the Early Music Shop and first started playing the viol in 2008 and played tenor and bass. Recently Christine took up the violin again after playing at school and played modern violin in a local orchestra and in the baroque orchestra at NORVIS. She was about to commission a baroque violin.
As well as a regular course member at NORVIS, Christine also attended Rondo Viol Academy courses. She also sang in four choirs.
She will be sadly missed by many people and especially by those with whom she made music.”

Francis Baines remembered

Some NORVIS members will remember Francis Baines, a tutor from the early days of NORVIS. Francis would have been 100 this year, and a concert is being put together in his memory at Cadogan Hall on 11th April, by many distinguished friends including Dame Emma Kirkby, Michael Chance, Pavlo Beznosiuk, Clare Salaman, Annette Isserlis, and Fretwork.
